Hello, I’m Jennifer – a former classroom teacher turned 2nd-generation homeschool mother of 3 kids. My career has taken many random turns and detours over the years, but I’ve spent most of it in academia so being a teacher is probably in my DNA. I used to teach high school mathematics and statistics, worked in curriculum development and even taught test prep for the GRE and GMAT. I worked freelance as a private maths and stats tutor for several years before transitioning to my current role as a data analytics consultant where I work with mostly PhD and MBA students.
When it comes to homeschooling, I’m especially passionate about…
- Bilingual Education – My husband and I are both polyglots and I love sharing our family’s passion for travel and culture through language. Especially my second language, French, which we use at home on a daily basis. But eventually German and Italian as well.
- Music Education – Both my husband and I are musicians, so letting our children have the fun of learning to play an instrument well and express themselves through music is important to us.
- Classical Education – I’m very passionate about passing along our cultural heritage through the classical languages and the history and culture of Greece and Rome. Their mythology has reverberated throughout Western culture, from literature and the plays of Shakespeare to opera and many other mediums of art.
- Montessori Home Environment – Reading Maria Montessori’s books have had a huge impact on how I view my kids, how I parent, how I homeschool and how I’ve constructed our home environment. It’s a place where children are respected and independence is fostered from an early age.
About the Blog
This blog is all about the homeschool life – balancing rigorous academics with serious extracurriculars. And I would love for it to inspire and encourage fellow homeschoolers who are holding themselves to a higher standard. Not because we have to prove anything, but because we believe in pursuing excellence in everything, especially academics. I believe we can give our children a world-class education at home and by doing so, give them the world.
I’m a nerd for all things productivity and since it plays a major role in being able to “get it all done” as a homeschool teacher and working mother, I try to share as many productivity tips as I can.
I also share my thoughts on textbooks and curriculum choices, ideas on keeping little ones busy while older kids are working, and review books about education.
Thank you for stopping by! I’m still very much figuring things out as I go, but I hope you find something worthwhile and helpful. If any of this resonates with you, please introduce yourself! I love meeting fellow homeschool mothers who share my interests.
Jennifer
