I’m really happy with this pairing… the books,

I’m really happy with this pairing… the books, I mean. 😂 I’m so glad I added the paper doll book as an impulse buy on the @timberdoodleco website.

The dolls are a nice addition to some of the history lessons and keeps my 2nd grader interested. I also like that she has the choice of cutting and assembling coloured pictures or colouring them herself first. 👌🏻

🎻 How I prep for a week of practice the day after a violin lesson.

First, I already have a practice routine set up that starts with scales, does some review work / sight reading and then progresses on to the main piece my daughter is working on from her Suzuki book. There are no upcoming competitions or recitals, so we just have Christmas music to start going over before the season starts.

No, not every day looks like this. But if one or both of us is tired / not in the mood to practice, we have this framework to fall back on to make sure we cover everything we need to.

📝 So, the day after a lesson, I read through the notes I took during her class and put them into the practice routine. If I need to make notes on the music itself, I will. But this list is for me to make sure we’re going over everything the teacher told us to work on.

⏰ I’ve had multiple people ask me how long our practice routine takes. I schedule an hour, shortly after lunch break. My daughter is almost 6 and has been playing violin for 3 years now, so she’s used to it being a non-negotiable part of our day. Every day. This hour includes interruptions by my 2-year-old, the occasional bathroom break and several “stretch breaks” for her.
